We embarked on our journey from the northern part of Vietnam, and as we start traveling down, you will encounter Vietnam tourist destinations like the beautiful Halong Bay and not to miss the quaint city of Hue.

Vietnam tourist destinations- Halong Bay

The Ha Long Bay also referred to as Halong Bay is a UNESCO nominated Natural World Heritage Site. It resides in the northeastern side of Vietnam. This scenically inviting bay area is filled with rocky, limestone islands and is definitely on any tourist’s must-visit list.

And if you want to spend time in and around the Halong Bay, here are some places to visit, see and a couple things you can do:

  • If you want to experience the bay area, the best way is to go boating or go on a cruise.
  • Visit the Hang Sung Sot or the Hang Dao Go stalactites and stalagmites filled caves; gorgeous sight indeed.
  • Visit the Lan Ha Bay area - it is home to over 300 limestone islands. Not just this, this diamond among Vietnam tourist destinations is home to a range of marine life like molluscs, arthropods, corals, and fish.
  • You could go snorkeling around Vietnam tourist destinations like Lan Ha Bay.
  • Or you could go windsurfing or kayaking around the beaches of Cat Co Cove.
  • Visit the Cat Ba National Park which is home to a range of wildlife and the golden-headed langur.
  • And yes, definitely don’t miss a date with history at excellent places to visit in Vietnam. Check out the Cannon Fort which has guns and tunnels used in WWII.

Hue

The best way to spell Hue is “Whey.” This town is definitely one of Vietnam’s very significant towns when it comes to its glorious past and rich history. It is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is about 700kms away from the capital city, Hanoi. Among the most visited Vietnam tourist destinations., Hue is situated by the banks of the Perfume River which is also known as the Song Huong River.

Imperial-City

Back in the era, it served as the capital city of the Nguyen dynasty. And till 1945, it was the capital city of Vietnam too. And not just this, it was previously the Forbidden City which could only be accessed by the kings, his mistresses and anyone designated by the kings. Many a war were fought in Hue with The Battle of Hue being one of the most brutal and this happened in 1968 during the Tet Offensive.

And a place with so much of past and history and stories locked in these buildings does deserve a Vietnam travel blog and a visit.

The Hue Citadel

The area where the citadel or the fort is located is huge. There are about 4 citadels within the complex. And they are known as Hoang Thanh, the Imperial City, Dai Noi the Inner City, Tu Cam Thanh, the Forbidden Purple City, and Tran Binh Dai, the Ancient city. Historically, it is very relevant and it’s definitely a must-visit.

Visit the many pagodas

Of all the pagodas in Hue, the Thien Mu Pagoda is the most well-known. It is octagonal in shape and it rises to over 68.9 feet in height. Some of the other famous pagodas in the vicinity include the Huyen Khong, Tu Hieu and the Tu Dam- best places to visit in Vietnam.

Take a riverboat cruise

One of the best ways to get a glimpse of Hue is by going on a cruise down the Perfume River. While doing so, you will pass some of the famous pagodas and also the royal tombs that are located by the riverbanks. And not to miss, sailing down the river is definitely relaxing and calming.
